![]() Griffin, The Create Everyday Classroom's first intern |
This year, there will be two students participating in an internship and one student in an apprenticeship.
Prospective interns express interest and have thoroughly experienced my programs in depth. These previous students who have "grown up" while attending The Create Everyday Classroom have been regularly enrolled in my summer camps for a minimum of five years and are 13 years or older. They are very familiar with my teaching methods and the mission as well as the daily rhythm and traditions of the classroom.
Currently, these positions are filled with students who have eight or nine consecutive years attending summer camps (not to mention regular academic year workshops, winter break + spring break camps).
INTERNSHIP
During one week of internship, the hourly commitment will be decided between mutual parties. This is an opportunity for the intern to get a better sense of their role as a participant and assistant. More importantly, this is an opportunity for me to learn where the intern's strengths lie so that, if pursued, an apprenticeship the following year can be personally designed. Internships are voluntary (un paid) positions.
Upon completing an internship, students will receive constructive feedback, volunteer work hours and letters of recommendation for other institutions if and when requested. Interns will also have the opportunity to apply for an apprenticeship the following year
APRENTICESHIP
When enrolled in the apprenticeship program, students will be given a job description (created in partnership between mutual parties) and a paid position.
The Create Everyday Classroom's long term goals include expanding in space and enrollment, while offering those who experienced successful apprenticeships, the title of assistant teachers.
In addition to daily assistance, Griffin's project was to choreograph and instruct this performance last summer
